Its characters, the backdrop of France, and the carefully crafted social ladder are all covered beautifully. While, yes, there were a few scenes that frustrated me with their length, there were plenty of other parts that made up for them.”

It's such hard work to get through, not because it's boring or any such thing, but because it's so much and so heavy. I was really moved by Javert's story, his conflict between doing his duty and...doing his duty: not being able to send a changed man to prison, and not being able to let an escaped convict go.”
