“short yet satisfying. Finley Jane is extremely appealing and the snarkiness of her 'dark side' particularly delicious. Will definitely be reading the next one. ”Arati wrote this review Wednesday, December 28, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Intro for a new steampunk series, not bad but a little to focused on the fashion that everyone is wearing. A girl can not move that way even if the corset is made out of leather.”smog wrote this review Thursday, December 8, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“The Strange Case of Finley Jayne is a bridge to a series called Steampunk Chronicles. It was quick reading and it was good.
I particularly enjoyed the humour because Finley Jayne is just too funny. Well, Finley Jayne here is not an ordinary human she should be. She’s different and she has unexplained strength in her. Besides, she has good hearing and she heals fast. What and who the real Finley is didn’t mention fully in book. I believe the answer is in The Girl in The Steel Corset.
There was a very mild romance in this book and it got nothing to do with the heroine. The romance was all about Lord Vincent’s love towards his late wife and her death’s tragic.
There was very mild horror too but it wasn’t that scary but it might be since there was a bit kind of gory details.
Overall, the book’s good but I don’t think I will continue this series. I read a lot of bad reviews regarding the first book in the series and honestly, I’m afraid to try. However, I’m interested to develop taste in reading steampunk books!”
“Interesting story line and I liked the characters. I'm curious to see where the story goes. ”Zombie Kitten wrote this review Friday, November 11, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Finley has just been discharged from her job for too vigorously defending a child. However, her unusual strength and extreme loyalty are exactly what Lady Morton is looking for. Her daughter Phoebe is need of a companion and Lady Morton is uneasy about Phoebe's new fiancee. Finley soon realizes that there is great reason to be wary about Lord Vincent and his plans for Phoebe after the marriage.
Good story but it took me a while to figure out that it was steampunk. It is also apparently a prequel. It did a really great job of encouraging me to read the rest of the story. I really want to know what is up with Finley's "darker half." This is never explained but I suppose that is just because it is a prequel and not a full length book. I like Finley's character; I am always a fan of a butt-kicking female. Or in this case a mechanical horse-destroying female. You know, whatever.”
“It was not a bad book. I wish it was longer, but it was a good short read that really got me into it.”Beth Z wrote this review Tuesday, October 4, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Being thrown unceremoniously out of a house closely followed by your carpetbag is no way to be fired. Although when you hit a governess so hard she's sent flying across the room without half of her teeth, well one can hardly blame others for thinking her the spawn of Satan and dismissing her without a reference. And so left on the streets with nowhere else to go Finley returns home to her mothers.
Finley is hardly home a day when a job opportunity lands in her lap. However why Lady Morton, a friend of her former employer, is happy to take her on knowing the circumstances of her termination is beyond her. But despite her reservations and the mystery surrounding her new employment, Finley is happy working for Lady Morton. That is until she discovers the sinister reasons behind a Lord Vincent's actions.
The Strange Case Of Finley Jayne is a compact yet feisty story of a girl who is unlike other girls. Finley is intelligent, bold and strong. Incredibly strong. She also has an other self that takes her over in times of stress and anger. As an introduction to the world of automatons, high society and mad scientist, this is the perfect prequel to the Girl in Steel Corset and if it's any indication of things to come, the Steampunk Chronicles should every bit as dark and exciting as this.”
