Hmmm. Definitely thought-provoking and twisted. But then human behaviour is that. To be honest, I must say I don't follow all aspects of the story. Like why is the suicidal sister incestuous? Unless she became so after her death? Do ghosts have the same moral values as the living? Or maybe I'm...

Strange story. Sci-fi and fantasy realism mingles w/ reality. It took me 10 minutes to read the text & go thu the pictures. The pictures tell the story & though detailed. the pictures are ugly. The author says she worked on it for 14 years -- doing the printing & binding herself. That was...

I have to read it again to process some more bits. And then I might rewrite the review. Till then, I'd say please do read it if you like to make yourself think about things deeply.

An illustrated fairy tale of three sisters, Clothilde, Odile, and Bettine. An otherworldly story with gothic prints. Very interesting.

This is an adult story book. Read it at the library. Definately reminiscent of Edward Gorey style. What I most enjoyed about this offering was the backstory Niffenegger included at the end of the book. How it took her fourteen years to complete this work; the writing and printing process. Save your money and read it at your library or bookstore, unless you are a collector of this type of rare adult book genre.

The author says she worked on it for 14 years -- doing the printing & binding herself. That was shocking because it isn't something that seems worth the time she spent. I didn't enjoy reading it much and am not at all sure what it meant.

I liked it a lot better than The Time Traveler's Wife. Some of the illustrations really could have included more detail, but on the other hand, quite a few of them were lovely to look at. It's a nice book to drift through on rainy days when you're bored. That said, I would suggest buying it second-hand - it's hardly worth the $30.00 dollars it's listed at.

I so wanted another nove by Niffeneger that I was really missed the wonder of the poignant tale of emotions portrayed by her evocative visuals.

This really is a novel told in visuals, not words. It tells a poignant story of love, jealousy and forgiveness. It is amazing how much of the emotions the pictures portray. Vastly different from her other novel!

The Three Incestuous Sisters was actually read to me (and the rest of the Elliott Bay Book Company audience) by the author, Audrey Niffenegger. It’s really more of a book of art pieces than a novel, as there are very few words. Niffenegger read while the images flashed on a screen via projector. Afterwards, she spent some time explaining how each illustration was created.

The author began the book 14 years ago, at the age of 22, when the idea came to her in a dream. Each illustration took about a week for her to complete using a process called aquatint. However she did not work on them sequentially; similar to filming a movie.

Simple. Beautiful. Though I probably have more amazement at the prints than the story.
