“The book was great! The beginning of the book doesn't seem so good but when you get to about page 45, then that's when it gets good. The end of the book wraps everything up to make a lot of sense. The title "Shattering Glass" makes the whole story surround one character, Simon Glass.”see full review » see other reviews »

“Such a good book. I have to be honest, I hated Simon towards the end, but I felt so bad for him in the beginning. Maybe he's just brutal because he knew what was going to happen.”Dancermdm wrote this review Sunday, March 24, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“I made it through this book very quickly. However Simon just seemed too manipulative in the end. I think that behind the dorky exterior he was just too high strung for the popular people.”Ria wrote this review Sunday, February 3, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Shattered Glass is a dark and disturbing novel written by Gail Giles. The author was inspired to write this novel by an incident when she was subbing 25 years ago in a high school. Some girls were grooming a nerd to become less of a loser. It got the author thinking about the potential dark side of this. The main characters in the novel are Rob, Bobster, Young, Coop, and playing the loser is Simon Glass. Glass is the nerd that the boys, but Rob in particular, set out to change. The events of this mission play out over the boys' senior year.
There was much to like about this novel. There are many themes a teacher could use in an English class. The obvious choice would be bullying, but there are others. What is the worth of being an individual? What does it mean to give up being an individual to gain the acceptance of the crows? What are the consequences of never speaking for yourself? The novel has some salty, yet realistic teenage language. A teenage sexual relationship is mentioned, but not in great detail. I felt the whole tone of the novel was very realistic when it comes to teens.
“Simon Glass is your average nerd in high school who gets picked on constantly. That is until four guys decide to make him the most popular kid in school. These guys are Young, a brilliant and popular kid; Coop, a dumb football jock; Bob, a guy popular with the ladies; Rob, a new kid yet he is already popular and everybody loves him. However Simon cautiously disagrees to this plan because no one has ever been nice to him so why would they start now. But with a little persuasion from Rob, (You could call him the leader of the 4 guys) gets Simon into the plan, because no one, bot even Simon could not love Rob. As the transformation began, everything changes for Simon, and people even begin to notice him. The five guys now have time to bond together and learn about each other, but after a little while something horrible happens. Young feels like he is being replaced by Glass, and will do anything to stay on top, so he does the worst thing someone could do. But to find out what it is, you have to read the book.”Zach R wrote this review Wednesday, May 30, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This book was a bit confusing to me. But basically, There are a group of popula guys, Rob, Bob, Young, and Cooper. Simon Glass is a nerd, whom everybody hates. Rob, striving for a challenge, does everything in his power to get Simon higher on the high school food-chain.”Marceline the Vampire Queen wrote this review Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
