This book was weird. It was book full of short stories from Haiti. Some of the stories were very strange and depressing. Some of them scared me, they talked a lot about all the horrible things that happened in Haiti. Some of the stories didn't make a lot of sense to me and were really confusing....

I am a true fan and will read other works by her. This was given to me by a friend who is interested in Haiti and enjoys the author. I am sooooo glad to have "discovered" her - although she has been writing for years and won awards.

To Haitian children, saying Krik? calls for the response, Krak! Then they are ready for the story to follow. It's like saying, Once Upon a Time . . . Danticat has adult stories to tell and they are often tragic.

Edwidge Danticat is one of the best writers that I've read. Her books are not happy, but they are real and they give me a better understanding of a life otherwise unknown by me. I look for anything she has written and I always enjoy it.
