Dr. Scarpetta's character can be a little too perfect at times (great taste in aged rums and makes her own pasta?), but her many flaws give the character relatability and depth, and she's certainly got courage to spare. Also, I liked the sparring between Kay and Detective Marino much more in this book than in the first one - they seem to have earned each other's respect, although they still verbally duke it out from time to time. Initially, I didn't care as much for the audiobook narrator (Donada Peters) as I did the narrator for Postmortem (C.J. Critt), but I settled into the storytelling as the book progressed. I still think I prefer C.J. Critt, but I definitely enjoyed Peters' skills as well. ”

I was reading it at night before I traveled to CA with the lights out using one of those portable reading lights and the window was open blowing cold air on me. I had to stop reading and finish the book the next day. I had nightmares after that. Overall though, it was a really great book.”
