It was alright, not the best biography in the world. When I ordered it on my library's website, I seriously thought that it was going to be bigger, not 100 pages long. There were very noticable errors that the author made, such as stating that J.K. Rowling was born with the middle name of Kathleen, which she was not. She was born with no middle name, and instead took the name of her grandmother as her "middle" name. The book said nothing about that. It also put a "the" in front of the word "dementor" near the beginning of the book, as if there was only one and not dozens. That ticked me a little. It's good and inspiring reading about J.K. Rowling, but it was written in 2000, and painfully needs to be updated. I think that it was a good book to read, but I would rather own a better, more recent one--especially one that has been "authorized" and is as official as they get.

I thought the way Shapiro wrote the story was sentimental. A very quick read, with holes missing. Still, interesting.

This book was truly inspiring and it was based on J.K Rowling's life and her rise to fame. Through reading this book, I have been able to understand J.K Rowling as an author much more and her motivations behind writing her most favorite series Harry Potter. It was very interesting to find out that J.K Rowling actually wrote the Harry Potter series unintentionally. She did not expect to write a whole novel let alone a whole series. What was so inspiring was the fact that when she was in her 20's she ended up becoming homeless after losing alot of money and her job. During the time where she was literary sleeping on the streets and had no money to buy even a piece of paper, she first started to write Harry Potter and scraps of tissues or napkins.

One day, she sat down at a small cafe and thought about a story in her head (which was the formation of the famous series). Once she started to write on the scraps of paper, the ideas just started to flow more and more in to her head. Soon, as she said herself in the book "The ideas kept flowing and flowing...I could not put my pen down..."

In the book, J.K Rowling also talked about being a single mom and what it was like to have a daughter. She talked about the challenges she faced and the different types of people that she had to deal with on her rise to fame. What struck me the most about her was her strong character and how determined she was to make her dreams come true. She did not want to remain homeless and most of all, she wanted to do something with herself. She did not let anyone get in the way of her dreams and focused on becoming a great writer. After writing a few books in the series of Harry Potter, the books were a huge hit across the world. J.K. Rowling became the second richest woman in Britain, right beneath the queen!! Thus, she was the richest, in terms of the regular people, in Britain. Soon after her huge success, a movie came out based on her series and it continues to come out every year (for the 7 books in the series). When the first movie was coming out, J.K Rowling was very excited and she said: "I am going to be sitting there like everybody else, really wanting to watch Quidditch..thats the thing I want to see the most. I have been watching this inside my head for 10 years so to be able to physically watch it on the screen. I feel like a kid when I think about it."

In conclusion, I would highly recommend everyone to read this book because it is very inspirational. It really makes a person realize that it is only our minds that stops us from achieving our goals and dreams. Anything is possible if we set our mind to it.

I just finished reading this one the other day. I enjoyed the information, but because it is an unauthorized biography, their are a lot of holes in the book. I got tired of the speculative sentences about what they though Joanne was going through. It's a quick read!
