I don't CARE how many historical innacuracies there are, and how unbelievable the fairytale style ending is, or how little they really address the war going on around the characters...this is a GREAT BOOK. The characters are careful, and each have their own small world that floats alongside all the others, trying to find a sense of solace and success in a world that isn't totally ready to give that without a price. The main characters have such fascinating friendships, and they are all bound...

Beautiful, love first three quarters of this book, up to the point where it leads to a Hollywood ending.. A lovely journey that takes you to a wrong place. Disappointing.

A great insight into the life of a woman I'll never be.

A strong lesson in inner and lasting strength; I hope I figure it out one day.

The movie was sadly lacking, maybe because it's nearly impossible to retell and capture all of Sayuri's experiences and Sayuri herself in two hours?

The book is really great. You get such a good insight into the life of a Geisha. Movie was horrid.

Golden tells you from that start that it's fiction, yet you get so drawn into the story that you forget....only to be reminded as the story concludes that this beautiful and captivating narration of the life of one geisha is fiction...but in your mind, you still think it's true. Magical. Great read for those who want to learn history and culture through a more entertaining yet enlightening read.
