considering Masuda was, and still on some levels, an illeterate, you have to commend her bravery for putting her life that (when you read) she is quite ashamed of. a poor girl who was sold to a geisha house, and looked down upon most of her life for being one - she did all she had to do to survive. although i would have been more content with more details to ease my own personal questions of the geisha, we have to understand Masuda's position when she wrote/narrated all she could to shed light on the true mysteries of Geisha.

I actually really liked it, at times better than Memoirs of a Geisha. It was a lot simpler, but it was also very real, and the author is a fantastic storyteller. If you liked Memoirs, I suggest reading this.
