Deodorant? Nutrition? Training bras? How’s a young girl to navigate? This book tackles the hard issues girls face between the ages 8 through 12, specifically their changing bodies. Using a combination of sensitive explanations, darling pictures, and letters written by concerned young ladies to American Girl, girls can get the answers to their most embarrassing thoughts and questions. From hair care and pimples to eating disorders and exercise, readers can get tips on how to grow into healthy young adults.

One of the best parts of this book is that it does lend itself to discussions. A health teacher or science teacher could use this book as a way to introduce or supplement a reproduction unit. The topics of nutrition and fitness could be incorporated into a physical education or family consumer science classroom. With its message of wellness, this text instills a sense of self-respect; a school nurse could even keep a copy of this in his/her office!
