Well Alyxandria Blackett has been pampered by her father and the town priest who found her gift a blessing to the church and the community. She is happy with this and goes on her merry way faithfully honing this beloved gift thinking it has brought her to an equal status with the neighbor lords. When come to find out they use it as an excuse to have their way with her or try and when she refuses and bests them or him as Lord Pagnell is really the only one to really care that he has been refused by the insolent wench. He declares her a witch that has bespelled him. He kills her father and burns her home along with posting an edict that pays a hansome reward to anyone with information or anyone who would turn her over. During the initial incident a strange man rescues Alyx and then later works with the priest to find her a haven to protect her from the evil Lord Pagnell. This they all realize requires much deliberation and planning and so Alyxandria is forced to become the young Alyxander Blackett and dress as a boy to live among outlaws. Outlaws which are lead by the infamous Raine Montgomery.
Raine takes a liking to the insolent boy as Alyx not just being obedient to the charges of being not soft in mannerisms like a girl uses all her anger against the nobles and directs it to Raine. He laughs and works her to death and forces her to eat to put on weight. Eventually Alyx comes to respect Raine and
shortly there after fall in love with him but is little in confidence in her own real appearance as a woman and pines in sorrow as she feels they could never be together due to her station in life. Not realizing that the one thing of value that she has brought through life she guards with her life has been handed down for generations by the females in the family is a link she has never even considered.
The detestable Lord Pagnell has indeed keep his ire up for the beautiful Alyx and is determined on his revenge. And Chatworth/Montgomery feud is still in hot progress and is fueled all the more when Alyx is detained in the Chatworth castle and found by Pagnell and attempted to be saved by Elizabeth Chatworth who is kiddnapped and sent to Miles in hopes that Miles ire to the Chatworths is riled alll the more causing both families to loose their lands to the mourning king who has lost his son and queen in less than a year and is in terrible spirits.
As in line with the other Montgomery women who are constantly trying to help their hotheaded husbands and with no appreciation from the louts. Alyx is determined that her Raine be freed.
Can she accomplish this with out loosing him again?

They were both outcasts by a harsh decree -- and on the brink of a shared destiny of passion! With her father murdered, her home burned, lovely Alyx Blackelt fled to the woods -- and sanctuary in the camp of Raine Montgomery, a nobleman outlawed by the king's edict. There she hid her beauty in the guise of a boy, and her sorrow in her work as Montgomery's squire. But how long could such loveliness as hers be hidden? How long could such a gallant man's desires be blind? And how soon -- even as a blood feud raged between the Montgomerys and the Chatworths, as angry swords clattered in the name of family honor -- one woman's love would make all the difference...one woman's love would inflame a hero's passion, touch a king's pity, and raise a song of praise in every English heart.
