I learned a lot about the history of war from this book. That said, it's poorly written, the argument often wears thin, and once read, there's no reason to re-read it.

This was a well written and entertaining book. I think that the author's thesis about the role of technology in combat is so nuanced that at least to my lay-man's reading, its almost a truism -- technology has a role but not the defining role in determining outcome. However, in terms of riveting accounts of how technology impacted battle throughout history, it was superb.
