“When Kendra and Seth Sorensen were dropped off at their grandpa's while their parents were away, they thought they would die of boredom. Little did they know that their grandpa, Stan Sorensen, was the caretaker for a secret preserve called Fablehaven, where creatures of magic have lived for centuries. Kendra and Seth soon discover that magic may not be all it seems to be, for sinister evil lurks just in the woods beyond their yard.
Seth makes the mistake of opening his bedroom window on Midsummer's Eve, a night of horror. In the morning, the kids discover every adult is gone. In the same day, the kids set a witch called Muriel Taggart free, in return for a favour- to turn their grandmother into human form, as she was a transformed into a chicken. After she was set free, Muriel sets out to free a powerful demon called Bahamut. Muriel kidnaps Lena (Stan's housekeeper), Stan, Ruth (Kendra and Seth's grandma), and turns Dale, a family friend and grounds keeper of Fablehaven, into stone. Kendra and Seth, along with Hugo, a golem, set out to rescue the adults. However, Bahamut was unleashed. Kendra, with the help of the Fairy Queen, saves her grandparents, and the preserve. Lena, however, was returned to the pond to resume her life as a naiad, a water nymph, despite her protests.
This book was fascinating. I kept turning the pages for hours and hours. The most captivating part is the amount of detail in this book. As you read on, the more secrets you uncover. I think this book could be compared to Harry Potter!
Its sequels, Rise of the Evening Star, The Shadow Plague, Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary, and Keys to the Demon Prison are equally as fun and exciting. The twists and turns, the betrayals, the hope, the anticipation. I would highly recommend this series to kids around 10-12 years old. I hope readers will enjoy this book as much as I do, because the Fablehaven series is my favorite series of all time!”
