Every time Kendra's younger brother was told what not to do- you knew everyone was in trouble because he was going to do it anyway. Gotta love little brothers!” see full review » see other reviews » |

I tried having an open mind to the fact that this is geared to a younger audience but there were some things that I could not get over. The whole cow and milking the giant teat while grabbing on, sliding down using the whole body and being drenched in milk...I did not love it. It sounded to close to some creepy guy's bizarre fantasy. Also, there is a definite lack of attachment to the characters. Maybe that is the hazard of reading children's lit (with the lack of details and all), but the only character I remotely liked enough to care what happened to her was the grandma. The book improved when she entered the picture since she was the one to give some more knowledge to the going-ons of Fablehaven where the Grandpa never disclosed information.
*Spoiler alert*
I thought the ending was rather anti-climatic. The big battle was a little bizarre considering how the whole book built up to the escape of this all mighty evil demon who we saw for about a whole five seconds before he was attacked by fairies who kissed their opponents as a war tactic. Once again: weird.
*End Spoiler*
I know I am being too critical of a fantasy based book that I am too old to be reading, but then again- are we ever too old to read a book? I just found this "best-seller" to have a lot of things that bothered me”
“Once you read the first one, you will be HOOKED!! True, the beginning's slow, but don't let that fool you. It's attempting to bore you so you won't find its true awesomeness. This book ROCKS!!”
