Didn’t Like It1 of 1 members found this review helpful“Not good. It tries to be too much: pholosophical, love story, history, but doesn't give you enough of anything. Taking place during the Russian Revolution, you aren't told much about what is actually going on. There are way too many minor characters that come in and out of the main story line,...” see full review » see other reviews » |

A man expressing himself in poetry in a climate that suppresses indviduals for the state. I thought the author's stylke was hard to follow at first but it was sorth sticking with it.”

The story covers a very turbulent time in the history of Russia: the 1st world war, the revolution, the years following the new regime.
You follow the troubled life of Dr. Zhivago through the history, the times, the lives of his contemporaries and people that are close to him. It's a terrible and a moving story at the same time. A life that shined like a shooting star, for a brief moment, impacting the lives of everyone around it, burning bright and burning out early, leaving a lot of things unaccomplished.

The book was hard to read but I've always had trouble enjoying Russian author's writing style. The movie of this book was wonderful!!!”

But as the story progresses, you will see Russia in the time of the revolution and Zhivago's idealogy towards it. Some, like the critics then, may hate it because it's anti-Marxist and it defies the philosophy of that time. But the beauty of the novel is capturing that moment in the history of Russia without bias or embellishment. And for that reason, that's what made it a classic and a worth-read.”
