That quote, radically changed my view of the Christian life. John Piper wrote this book based on that quote.
This book racked my brain! Out of Piper's three cardinal books, I enjoyed this one the most. What I will always remember from this book was "Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him;" - Isaiah 53:10. This book blew my mind! I got through this book in like a week because it was so FREAKING GOOD! Besides the cover is purple and fruity and guaranteed to get that Christian cutie to say "aaaaaawwwwwwww".
Yeah just go on Piper's site and buy this freaking book.”
“The content of this book is profound. It is deep, but it is a depth worth plumbing.
Piper takes Henry Scougal's proposition, that the worth and excellency of a soul is to be measured by the object of its love, and applies it to God. He argues that to object of God's love is that which God takes pleasure in most. Thus if we are to see the worth and excellency of God, we must see that in which he finds the most pleasure. Hence the title of the book.
This is not merely theological quibbling. It is of immense practical concern. For Piper argues that the Bible puts forward beholding as a way of becoming (2 Cor 3:18). As we behold the glory of the Lord, we are transformed from one degree of glory to another.
I believe this is a must-read. This is claimed to be one of Piper's best works, and in my opinion rightly so. There is a clear vision of the glory of God that permeates the entire text, leaving you in awe of the God who knows us, and calls us by name. It is one I will return to soon.”
“Have taught me to delight in God!”

He takes a biblical text, stares at it, and then expounds it in such a way that its weight and beauty land on you in such a way that you see God differently after its all said and done.”

What's better than thinking about how great God is and how He must take pleasure in his Goodness. It was a refreshing read in our day when we make Him a little too, plain and commonplace. ”
