I loved this book and can't wait to read Girl, 16 & Girl, 17! Sue Limb captures the essence of a 15 year-old girl who is unsure of her appeal to the opposite sex. With an absent, but truly loving father, a mother who is a librarian (love this part) and a grandmother who is enthralled with...

I loved this book and can't wait to read Girl, 16 & Girl, 17! Sue Limb captures the essence of a 15 year-old girl who is unsure of her appeal to the opposite sex. With an absent, but truly loving father, a mother who is a librarian (love this part) and a grandmother who is enthralled with anything bloody or violent, Jess Jordan strives to keep her home life normal, while trying to present her best side (and it's not her back side) to the school. The scrapes that Jess gets into will make you grown with embarrassment! Jess even introduces to the school librarian who believes eating in the library is a sin!

This is a young adult book about 15 year old Jess. She wants to be a stand-up comedian when she gets older. For now, she's getting through life dealing with typical teen angst: school, friends, boyfriends, family issues, etc. She's insanely jealous of her best friend Flora (looks, house, family), has to deal with issues when granny moves in, and has an embarrassing moment that she has to try to stop from becoming public. She also has relationship issues with boys that she needs to figure out and is trying to figure out why her parents divorced.

This was a typical young adult, coming of age book. I assume the "humor" part comes from her wanting to be a stand-up comedian, the witty dialogue between her and her friend Fred, and the daily horrorscope that her father sends her every day. Besides some of the language (snogging, mum, looking like a tart, and the car park, for example), I don't think there's anything else to identify it with the tag "England." Overall, this was just an average read for me. Nothing that I'd recommend. There is a sequel Girl, Nearly 16 Absolute Torture, that I know I won't be reading.

Jess's voice is fresh and funny....laugh out loud funny! I certainly didn't excect to enjoy this one as much as I did. The bizarre horoscopes at the beginning of chapters are a stitch. And Jess is a plucky teen narrator. Readers will see some of her troubles coming...but it hysterical to hear Jess's take on situations. Sue Limb's writing is a welcome breath of fresh air.

A really funny book. After reading books in the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series I love reading books with the characters living in England. Can't wait to read the sequels (:

I was surprised to find that I really liked this book. It was entertaining and funny, and Jess is a typical teenager who has insecurities and awkwardness around boys. THe minstrone soup incident was hysterical. This was a light funny read, that may have not had a definite ending, but was certainly well-written and entertaining.
