Society outlaws abortion, but allows harvesting of organs/body parts of unwanted or "selected" kids. Novel tells about 3 teens trying to survive. High energy sci-fi that's also a bit disturbing.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“A chilling story that, although it is science fiction, could be all too real! Could not put the book down!”

If anybody likes a lot of suspense and action all the time this is the perfect book for you. I liked that there was action but i thought that there was to much action and it could have been very confusing so i would have liked it if there was a little more narration. Overall this book was pretty good and though it was decent it wouldn't be a book that i would read again.”

I am not usually a fan of Science Fiction, but I LOVED this book. This book explores the future when the debate between "pro-life" and "pro-choice" has developed into a revolution. Abortion is not an option, but mothers can leave their new born baby on someone's step and run away OR they can choose to have the child "unwound" when he reaches 13. In this world children who have had problems in school, run-ins with the law or a child who is the ward of the state can be sent away to be "unwound" at the age of 13. This book follows several teens as they face this potential "end" to their lives. Great action book and a great teen friendship book.”

This book really reminds me of the "Ugly, Pretty, & Specials" series. Instead of becoming a pretty, your going to become an Unwind, which means you go somewhere to have your body parts be sent out to people who need them all over the world. You may think this is a good thing, but actually it isn't. Your parents decide whether or not they want you after a certain age, or you yourself sign the permission slip, not realizing your giving up your life for someone else, but not actually living or doing what you want.
But anyway, I can't believe Connor took the baby off the doorstep! Especially with that woman glaring down at him (the way the author said she did). And who is Lev thinking? Risa and Connor would have never waited for him at that school, he turned them in, where they were hiding! But thats where I left off, so now to reading the rest..can't wait!

“A friend and reading specialist recommended this book to me. It was terrific. The story line was unique and posed a great questions for discussion with teens about abortion, the right to life, teenage responsibility and more. I recommend it to teens and adults alike. I hope to get a discussion group together at school to talk about it some more.”
