Time Travel Romance. Joan is humanity's last hope. Sent from a near-future world in which demons have nearly succeeded in wiping out the human race, she arrives in 1888 England with one goal: to assassinate Alex Reynell, the immortal wizard who unleashed the creatures. Unfortunately, the only way she can get close enough to Reynell to kill him is by infiltrating the high society circles he frequents -- and Joan is far better at hand-to-hand combat than she is at dancing or drinking tea. She finds an unlikely teacher -- and lover -- in magician Simon Grenville, who has his own personal reasons for wanting to stop Reynell, but if Joan succeeds in changing the past, her present reality will vanish...and so may any chance of a future with Simon.
