Extremely well written and illuminating. My favorite bits were the personal experiences from the Cultural Revolution and the analysis of the continuing impact of the idea of revolution on the Chinese mindset.

Interesting glimpse into the contemporary cultural psyche of China, conveyed through a handful of quirky recollections. Written by a Chinese author, but just recently translated into English.

A funny book but at the same time a book that talks about the grim reality of the cost of progress. It is not a good sign when the country's richest get arrested on charges of fraud and embezzlement. The culture of plagiarizing, pirating and copying is not seen as wrong but is encouraged. The enormous damage to the environment. It truly seems that this country has become a modern day version of the wild west.

This is an excellent book by the author who was brought up in the cultural revolution. If you are not interested in this period of time and after you will not like this book.
