Barbara Kingsolver is a committed and intelligent environmentalist and this book has clear and insightful ideas on the conservation of our earth's valuable resources. She is also against war and I am also. I believe her work is important in our violent and greedy world.

This a collection of essays which starts off with one dealing with 911. After reading "Three cups of tea" and seeing the whole issue from another very real, hands-on perspective, I just could not get into this book.

Not huge on nonfiction essays.... but she is great. Wish I was more like her!

I am so glad Barbara Kingsolver decided to become a writer - or, to let her writing come forth!

I've enjoyed her novels but she is a superb essayist.

Gorgeous, thoughtful essays written in the aftermath of 9/11--her search for beauty in the ashes.

The fact that I almost universally agree with everything Kingsolver says just about guaranteed that I would like these essays and that's how it played out. She's an eloquent speaker and someone who really thinks about her place on the planet and her role as the world's citizen. How many people can say that? I particularly likes "A Fist in the Eye of God." Grade: A

A really interesting read, in the vein of Amy Tan's book also on my shelf. I particularly enjoyed hearing about her life and her passion for a lifestyle that leaves a small footprint.

Fantastic. Covers a broad range of topics that may seem unrelated, but as the author continually reminds us, are all connected, if invisibly.

I listened to this audio book, read by the author and enjoyed it so much I purchased a copy of the book.

Social problems, benefits of growing one's own food, etc. I do not always agree with her opinions, but much of the information should be known by everyone.
