  I just adore Susan Cooper's writing. Even though I think L'Engle's premise and mythos are way more original and creative, Cooper's technical writing skills are just exemplary.
  
  I found the whole Arthurian thing kind of disappointing as it's really not essential to the stories and I think actually taints their originality. If the Cooper had gone the extra mile to wrap all that up in her own original mythology, these stories would have been impeccable.
  
  That criticism aside, these are still some of the most enjoyable fantasy books I have read. Seriously. The best.”

  “I never tire of reading this series. It was the beginning of my love affair with Arthurian legend, compelled me to try and teach myself Welsh, and lead to many dreams of being an Old One.”
