This takes everything the first did and cranks it up multiple notches. I will say, however, that this story had quite an absence of Hit Girl. Didn’t Like It“For starters let me say I was a fan of the first Kick-Ass (comic and movie). Millar definitely pushed boundaries in Kick-Ass as far as violence, vulgarity and brutality…but it was funny and it was okay to laugh at. Who doesn’t like Hit-Girl? In Kick-Ass 2, boundaries are pushed even further…but...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“A bloody good time”

Overall, this addition had the sequel feel that just didn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with the original. I really missed Hit Girl, who was a very small part of this book. If you liked the original then this book is a must read, but be prepared for extra violence, it packs a mean punch. ”

Kick Ass's adversary Red Mist builds an army of villains to tear apart anyone and everyone (gunning down little kids in the street - contraversial!) because he's gone a bit INSANE since the first instalment. Kick Ass joins a team of superheroes in order to fight back, though mostly he wants Hit Girl to fight with him again. Hit Girl has promised her stepdad she'll stay firmly in retirement and to be a Normal Girl.
It's all very gory (trust me when I say VERY) and manages to be both extremely dark and amusingly ridiculous. If there's another sequel I'm sure it will push the boundaries even further. ”

I will say, however, that this story had quite an absence of Hit Girl. I suppose that's because she has her own solo book out, but it was a little jarring to not see her for extended periods of time. This story felt even more grounded in reality (albeit, doused with a great deal of over the top, out there violence). I enjoyed the extended cast of characters and look forward to the next installment. What is with the idea of having a father figure be there for these kids? Lol.”

It's still a fun read though, especially if you enjoyed the first book.”

Millar definitely pushed boundaries in Kick-Ass as far as violence, vulgarity and brutality…but it was funny and it was okay to laugh at. Who doesn’t like Hit-Girl? In Kick-Ass 2, boundaries are pushed even further…but it is in no way funny and you definitely don’t want to laugh at it. In fact, you should NOT be laughing. It seems that the violence is just for sheer “shock value.” It seems that Millar is trying to give his audience everything he thinks they want which is just an orgy of shock violence and vulgarity. There isn’t even that much of an emphasis on any of the characters that we grew to like in the first volume; it’s just a splatter-fest which feebly tries to copy a “chaos” story like in The Dark Knight. Let’s face it though Red Mist (who ridiculously changes his name to M***** F*****. That’s not even a cleverly funny name!) is no Joker. The story tries to be “darker” but it’s just not enjoyable. The one redeeming aspect is that I just really like Hit-Girl; she’s the only character that manages to remain likeable. There will be more volumes added to the Kick-Ass series, and I will read them in hopes that the series gets its act back together. ”

Can't wait to read the next one”
