Summary: I remember reading this great book and then getting so excited once the movie came out. It was a great movie/book comparison experience for me. This sweet story is about a girl named Opal and her father who move to Florida and Opal finds a dog and calls it Winn-Dixie. because of Winn-Dixie, Opal has a better summer adjusting to her new home and making new friends but most important of all Winn-Dixie allows her to remember her home and recover from her loss.
Uses in Classroom: Vocabulary words, Teacher can read book with children as a class and then show the movie after. Activities for this can include: compare and contrast Venn diagrams between to movie and the book. ”
