Deck Lee meets Sandy Lodge: radical black intellectual marries doughy, white, New England blue blood. Their older daughter, Cole, is brown and nappy like Deck; their younger, Birdie, is light, bright and damn near white. Birdie...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“I learned a lot while reading this book. It gave me some insight into the world of racial persecution. The information was well written into a fictional type story, and I enjoyed myself while reading it. I think it is a very good and informative book. ”

Unfortunately, that point didn't come until more than halfway into the book. This is a very serious tale about two sisters who were separated at a young age. If you can get past the hard-to-believe plot points of the book (of which there are many), it's an interesting, intelligent read.”

This country has a very complicated relationship with race and Caucasia is one of the more intriguing examinations of this relationship that I've read to date. I'll leave plot summary to others primarily because I read this book some time ago and many details have slipped my mind. Instead I'll simply state that I highly recommend giving it a read. ”

The time of when they grew up was very radical to say the least. The struggle one sister had with her identity really gave an insightful perspective. I was sorry to see it end”

Narrated by Birdie, the younger sister whose young life takes an incredible turn when her eccentric white mother and her afrocentric black father split the family up, this book would make an excellent Spike Lee joint. This story stayed with me for months after I read it the first time.
I highly recommend it for those days you want to get lost in a good story.”
“I could not get past the first few pages, the language was so bad. I hoped it would be cleaned up later in the book, but when I saw 3rd graders using the same type of language the adults used, I decided it wasn't a book for me.”

She also lived with her older sister Cole. Her discovery of self and the complications that people make for themselves made this novel a page turner. The author's writing style is very descriptive and clearly helped to describe every moment of this young girl's life through her eyes. I loved this book.”
