“My Soul to Keep was a great read. Due's attention to detail gave the story a believable feel and made the story a compelling read because I was truly concerned for the well being of the characters. I wanted a HEA and since the ending fell short of that it left me almost satisfied but not quite. Due is a great storyteller and I look forward to reading more of her work.”
“I don't know if anyone has heard, but there's a follow-up by Tananarive Due coming in June called "Blood Colony". ”
“I forgot the glue that pulls this story together--the living blood or the blood of Jesus. And the brothers were the only ones to have it, until Jessica. David/Dawit intergrated the brotherhood! ”
“I finished My Soul to Keep last night past 11 and almost knew the ending. I say almost because I have read Ms. Due's other work and know how she reveals, little by little her journey to the end. But, at the end is a completely different twist. There are writers who love humanity more than others. I think that is reflected in this novel. I speak of the little girl, Kira, and her relationship with her father and the different relationship with her mother is an example. The weird husband's love of his family and need to find love "forever," I truly understand. At times, I became frustrated with the speed of the unfolding and would put the book down. But it would haunt me so I had to get back to it. A wonderful job of storytelling, no doubt. The living blood element was set up to write "The Living Blood." I'd be interested to read what happens to this "new family." I don't believe Ms. Due is going to write them off as flawed. As I said, she is an humanitarian at heart. As a writer, I can't imagine the ending being any different.”
