“Book Review March 1st, 2013.
Reading Response January 24, 2013 (Book Finished). The Chrysalids is an extremely thoughtful and suspenseful read. I thought it was incredible because the author, John Wyndham has a writing style which uses a lot of clauses in his sentences, which creates very complex reading. However, he balances it out perfectly with writing and action. The story is in an futuristic wasteland where nuclear war has destroyed everything. I felt the best writing moment was the climax, in which they battle in the Fringes. This included perfect setting and character description. I also felt all of the characters were very complex, and also very believe able. The author also showed the mood perfectly, creating suspense or tension between two characters. As a final thought, the theme was described perfectly as turmoil of deformation. I thought the book was an excellent read for any young adult trying to find great, complex action and setting description. A great read.
From pages 1- 104. In the book the Chrysalids by John Wyndham, there are many interesting and un usual characters that have a tremendous impact on the story. However, I am going to analyze the character Uncle Axel. Uncle Axel is for one very brave. He knows that everyone around him can discriminate him for his view and ideas, however he sticks with his instincts, and keeps his beliefs. He is also very loving and understanding. Since David, his own nephew, is an abomination, everyone would treat him horrible if they found out. However Axel realizes that it is not David's fault that he is a insult to god, and he gives him advice and and is very reliable. As is shown on page 31, David said, " His gravity impressed me greatly. I had never known him to speak with so much intensity." This shows that Uncle Axel was smart, and had lots of advice and willingness to cooperate. He was very reliable and is a father figure to David.”

“Jan 31, 2013
finished the book (pg 200)
I thought that this was an excellent book. As with most John Wyndams writing, the beginning can be quite confusing, and will take a while to get through. However, once you get past that part, the book is quite fast paced and very interesting. i would definitely suggest this book to other people, for many reasons. Along with being an overall good book, the characters act quite believable. at most points throughout the story, i would experience parts where the characters actions reflected what i think i would have done in the given situation.”
