Just three stories in and again in awe of Boyle. "Swept Away" is brilliant.
I don't relish reading successive short stories in a collection so I returned this one to the library and bought my own copy.

TC is to be relished

Excellent collection of stories. They all complement each other well, even though they run the style gamut and shift from seedy LA to the southern tip of South America to trim-lawned Connecticut. They're also very funny, and they get funnier as they darken. Boyle is a real talent, and short fiction is his forte.

Well since no one has much to write about this - I guess I will take the plung. As usual with a collections of short stories, some are just not going to appeal to every reader. That said - these stories are about the everyday life of people, except that they are anything but normal. The main charaters are usually men and there is almost always booze involved. There is much irony and interesting insight into minds of people you may not normally consider. I would recommend this book, even though it might appeal to straight men more.
