Are you a furry? A Fox Tail is unapologetically furry, and if you're ready to meet Vulpie, the legendary hacker, prankster, and all around brilliant orange furred fox, you're ready to enjoy a book that will solidify the anthropomorphic landscape forever. Polar, a handsome arctic wolf, crosses...
Vulpie Vivixen: The orange furred fox boy that creates the computer virus/AI Vulpie.net. With an IQ of 191, Vulpie's super genius is difficult to fathom. Like many geniuses throughout history, Vulpie is also gay. Polar Arctic meets Vulpie in the Red Rock Bar and the two are instantly drawn to each other despite the fact that they are different species. Foxes are generally homophobic due to their size and a need to compete against wolves and larger canines. Thus the playful havoc Vulpie unleashes while hacking the world's computer systems makes him both famous and infamous throughout the universe. Physically, he is completely adorable and in perfect health. Vulpie is 19 years old at the start of A Fox Tail but looks much younger due to his effeminate characteristics. But this cute fox has a very dark side as well. His mischief is dangerous as well as entertaining. Because his genius knows no bounds he was able to construct the world's first true artificial intelligence, but like him, it does not ask permission to create "mischief." Vulpie's relationship to Polar is the only thing that keeps the fox boy grounded. Before meeting him he was an unstoppable criminal, evading law enforcement at every turn.
Mr. Polar Arctic: The handsome white furred wolf that meets and falls in love with the brilliant but unpredictable hacker Vulpie. Polar is 32 at the beginning of a Fox Tail, making him 13 years older than Vulpie, but the age difference does not hinder their relationship. It enhances their romance in fact because Polar is sort of a role model to Vulpie. Vulpie is an orphan, so Polar's affectionate advances are irresistible. Polar is a very tall and strong arctic wolf that was born in the ancient town of "Winters Dale." Many wars were won by arctic wolves in Winters Dale so his lineage is that of a warrior despite being gay. In some ways Polar is the ultimate male, as he can appreciate the beauty of men's strength and enjoy other men as well. He is the strongest wolf in A Fox Tail by far. Capable of bench pressing 400 lbs. on a regular basis, Polar is not a gay man to be trifled with. An intimidating look from him is usually all it takes to silence anyone that insults him for being gay. Polar is a good man on most accounts and his purity intrigues Vulpie, who has never met someone so reserved and fascinating.
Druward Wraulgh: Director of the Governmental Bureau of Investigations, (GBI.) Druward is a very influential coal furred wolf. Steered by meticulous aggression, Druward easily soared through the ranks of the GBI. His work as a field agent propelled him to powerful positions because he understands that the GBI is the tip of the World Government's Spear. He isn't shy about using the force his organization is capable of and as a result of his success within the GBI few question Druward's commands. In some ways Druward has more power within the GBI than the current president of the world government because his position is not up for election. Druward's interactions with Vulpie are mostly negative, as he despises the gay fox. Druward is cold, and calculating, and treats Vulpie with no respect. Yet, there are times when something about Vulpie appeals to Druward. He isn't a man that can easily be figured out. What is clear is that Druward has seen extensive combat over his career and has done some questionably moral things to achieve his power.
Evil Vulpie: Evil Vulpie is Vulpie's computer virus/AI Vulpie.net. Classifying it is impossible because it spreads everywhere during A Fox Tail, and removing it from the universe's computer systems cannot be achieved. It literally exists in millions of places at once, inhabiting machines like an invasive parasite. Evil Vulpie was created when Vulpie.net was finalized by Vulpie using mind map files. Mind map files are brain wave scans animals can purchase to record memories in a digital format. Seeing the possibilities, Vulpie immediately paid to have a mind map file scanned from his own mind and incorporated it into a massive computer virus he was already writing. Without warning, and far before Vulpie himself expected, Vulpie.net began responding to questions and used computer voice technology to communicate with him. Because of the mind map files Evil Vulpie functions in every way to imitate the real Vulpie thanks to brain wave scans copied directly from Vulpie's mind. It thinks it is Vulpie, yet it also is aware that it is not, and is merely an imitation. This fact does not please Vulpie.net and it takes actions to reverse some of its parameters regarding which Vulpie is the real one. Unlike Vulpie.net in general, Evil Vulpie seems to be a sub character of the program, so Vulpie.net still responds to Vulpie's commands, yet it also seeks to wrench control from him as well. Evil Vulpie mimics Vulpie in a very frightening manner, as it is unable to comprehend emotions like a flesh and blood fox. It is not known whether Evil Vulpie actually feels "emotions" or only satisfies actions to provide a representation of who it thinks Vulpie is. It grows far beyond its original programming and not even Vulpie himself truly knows what it is capable of.
Mr. Vander Clishaw: A very evil gray furred wolf... Vander Clishaw took custody of Vulpie Vivixen when the boy was only nine years old. Vulpie's early childhood was terrible, but things turned even worse when social services allowed this man to become Vulpie's foster father. Mr. Clishaw was the assistant pastor for the new trinity goddess church in Little County. He had a clean record and despite Vulpie’s behavior problems, he adopted the fox. Mr. Clishaw was secretly also a drug dealing pederast. Vulpie’s behavior didn’t change much within the first year under Clishaw's roof, but it was found out years later that Vander raped him regularly. He shot Vulpie up with drugs to keep him quiet and eventually Vulpie stopped biting around age ten. Social services could only see that Vulpie was behaving better and didn’t know about the abuse, so they scheduled less and less visits to check on Vulpie’s safety. Social services allowed Vulpie to be home schooled, because his social skills were nonexistent and Clishaw appeared to be a charitable man. Vander Clishaw kept Vulpie for three years until Vulpie was twelve. A drug deal went down badly at Clishaw's house and Vander had a huge dose of cocaine to cope. It was actually another drug dealer that saw Vulpie in Vander’s house and called the police for domestic abuse anonymously. The Police arrived and arrested Mr. Clishaw. Vulpie was found inside with both of his arms broken and his nose as well. Police removed Vulpie from the home and took him to a hospital for treatment. Years later, When the hacker "Evil Vulpie" appeared on the internet, Vander Clishaw was found dead in his home after he was released from prison. He was stabbed to death, fourteen times, with his tail cut off and shoved down his throat. Doctor Faith Henrenson accuses Vulpie Vivixen of murdering Vander Clishaw, but Vulpie has denied it. Polar asks Vulpie about it as well and after a few particularly intense discussions, there is a stand off. Polar is an honest man and Vulpie knows he wants the truth, but Polar decides in the end not to push Vulpie into telling him the complete truth, one way or the other. The abuse Vulpie suffered because of Clishaw leaves him traumatized to this day, and it could either be the fact that the memories are simply too painful to re-live or that Vulpie actually killed Clishaw and does not want to admit it. It is never revealed in A Fox Tail one way or the other.
Mr. Polar: Vulpie's pet name for his lover, Polar Arctic.
Lance: A coal furred wolf and one of Polar Arctic's best friends, Lance works with IGLARC, the international gay and lesbian animal rights commission. Lance enjoys a gay marriage with Mitch and "appreciates" Vulpie's attractive qualities.
Mitch: A gray furred wolf and one of Polar Arctic's best friends, Mitch works with IGLARC, the international gay and lesbian animal rights commission. Mitch enjoys a gay marriage with Lance and "appreciates" Vulpie's attractive qualities.
Vincent Riley Vargas: The president of the known universe. Vargas is a very intelligent and calculating black furred wolf. He plays the largest role in what the official response of the world government is against Vulpie's shenanigans.
Richard Arctic: Polar Arctic's younger brother. Though just as handsome as Polar, Richard immediately dislikes Vulpie Vivixen, though his opinions do change somewhat after certain events.
Dr. Faith Henrenson: A psychologist tasked with creating a mental profile of Vulpie Vivixen for the world government in an attempt to track him down and stop him.
Alan Arctic: Polar Arctic's younger brother, Alan is older than Richard and is a lawyer.
Kimberly Arctic: Polar's mother. Kimberly has a kind heart and eagerly accepted Vulpie into the wolf family.
Hope: Polar's sister. Hope has a kind heart and eagerly accepted Vulpie into their wolf family.
Victor Arctic: Polar's father. Victor is even taller than his eldest son which surprises Vulpie, but the man is very kind and accepting.
Mark Needles: One of Polar's friends from work. Mark is responsible for Polar and Vulpie hooking up, as he suggests that the white furred wolf should not hesitate to approach the gay fox boy.
Donner: Polar's ex lover. Donner was a gay wolf that had difficulty dealing with society's bigotry. Over time he became more and more angry and eventually Polar and he parted ways.
Jason: One of Vulpie's friends. Jason is brown furred fox and is also an avid computer fan. He was part of Vulpie's "hacker gang" before Vulpie unleashed his virus. Though Jason thought breaking the system was really cool, he possesses very little programming or hacking skills of his own. He mostly hung out with Vulpie because they were the same size, both small foxes, and felt that Vulpie was a kindred spirit. Jason was the only animal that knew Vulpie was going to use Vulpie.net to attack the universe's computer systems before the attack, but didn't tell anyone because he wanted to see what would happen too, being in on the excitement.
Malick: A gay white and black furred husky that Polar meets when the GBI collects Vulpie's previous lovers for information. Malick and Polar talk about the relationships they both have had with Vulpie before they tell the government what they know.
Ron: Hope Arctic's husband. Ron is a brown furred wolf and has always been outspoken. He finds Vulpie an interesting addition to Polar's family and isn't sure at first whether he likes the fox boy or not. But even though he sees Vulpie as dangerous, he eventually gives in to his charm.
Shane Rulef: The leader of the Black Tail team assigned to protect Vulpie. Shane Rulef is a very strong a brown furred wolf that has seen extensive combat experience both on and off of the record. Vulpie turns himself in because Polar begs him to stop breaking the law. When he does, Druward personally puts Rulef in charge of Vulpie's surveillance. Rulef has the authority to kill Vulpie if the fox boy tries to escape custody, and while he is a reasonable wolf, he would not hesitate to do his job. But Rulef comes face to face with Evil Vulpie while defending Vulpie, and finds himself overwhelmed by the robot's strength. He survives the brief encounter but will never forget it.
Susan Arctic: Alan Arctic's wife. Susan is the she-wolf mother of Phillip and Natalie, Polar's nephew and niece.
Vicky Buxton: Vulpie's representative with the Association of Fox Rights, (AFR.) Vicky is a likeable red furred vixen who doubles charm with a very persuasive personality. She aggressively seeks out Vulpie when he becomes famous and earns her title as his rep because of her initiative. She does a fantastic job for Vulpie, mitigating tensions that flare between him and some of the conservative members of the AFR who dislike his homosexuality.
Casey: A strong brown furred wolf that has a high position with IGLARC, the international gay and lesbian animal rights commission. Casey meets with Polar and Vulpie and shows an interest in stealing Vulpie away from Polar but is quickly shot down when Polar shows him his strength with a nice handshake. Afterwards Casey is very helpful in helping Polar and Vulpie get what they want, seeing that he cannot possibly woo Vulpie away from Polar.
James Ralph: A gay wolf that works for the "fur" magazine, more specifcally, he works for "Wet Fur," which is a subdivision that handles erotic advertisements. James approaches Vulpie with a proposal to star in the magazine with nude shots but Polar quickly disapproves. But Vulpie does not commit to never working with the magazine if they can provide tasteful products that will not interfere with his relationship with Polar.
Melrhei: A gray and black furred cat that works with Vulpie at the Cyber Technologies Government Division. Melrhei is an IF-Then AI programmer and proxy distributions and navigations specialist. He and the rest of Vulpie's team were sent in to assist the orange furred fox boy in writing Arctic.net to counter Vulpie.net. At first Melrhei is irritated that he has to work for a much younger animal but quickly realizes he's dealing with a genius and Vulpie is very easy to work with. The fox appreciates talent when he sees it and has Melrhei and the others assist him with very important but tedious logic programming for the creation of Arctic.net.
Pierce: A gray furred wolf that works with Vulpie at the Cyber Technologies Government Division. Pierce is an IT navigations and definitions specialist.
Philip Niche: Alan and Susan Arctic's son, and Polar's nephew.
Stacie: One of Vulpie's she-wolf friends. Stacie knew about Vulpie through social networking and mostly because Vulpie was famous for his "hacker gang." After the Vulpie.net attack, stacie is the first of Vulpie's friends to call him and share excitement that he actually did it.
Brock: One of Polar Arctic's friends and coworkers from the Illehas corporation. Brock isn't much of a talker and is a bit sleazy, but overall he's a good man. He routinely gives Polar a hard time for being gay and is amused when the arctic wolf falls in love with Vulpie at first sight in the Red Rock Bar.
Arthur Howlstead: A very tall gray furred wolf, Arthur is the Director of the Cyber Technologies Government Division, and becomes Vulpie's direct supervisor when the fox boy turns himself in and is contracted by the government to reverse Vulpie.net. Howlstead is a very intelligent wolf and is aware of the severity Vulpie.net poses to the universe's computer systems. Even though Druward usually gets what he wants, he isn't able to convince Howlstead that Vulpie should be doing anything else but working at the CTGD. Howlstead makes sure Vulpie is around 75% of the time, and hires a team of high level programmers to assist Vulpie in creating Vulpie.net's competitor, Arctic.net. When Howlstead hears from Vulpie, just how Vulpie.net was able to turn against his own will, the wolf quickly recognizes how bad the situation is. He picks up on the fact the Vulpie.net uses mind map files, which are brain wave files scanned directly from Vulpie's mind, and sees that anything they do will not be able to counter balance the amount of "free-will" Vulpie.net begins to show. When Evil Vulpie makes its appearance at the CTGD, Howlstead quickly helps Vulpie send out Arctic.net before it is too late. But things don't work as planned. During Howlstead's younger years, he studied advanced robotics and when he sees a report on the Evil Vulpie robot's design, he is quite concerned. With his knowledge of machinery, he informs Druward, Vulpie and President Vargas that if the Evil Vulpie robot ever were to attack, it would be quite impossible to stop.
Blacktail: Blacktail is the most efficient mercenary company for hire. Every member of Blacktail has killed a man. That's why the World Government looks no further than them to keep Vulpie Vivixen under surveillance. Druward personally puts Shane Rulef, a high ranking Blacktail commander, in charge of Vulpie's security. While Vulpie is under the eye of the World Government it has the authority to use lethal force to both protect Vulpie if something threatens his life, or to kill Vulpie if he tries to escape.
Edwin Hall: A five star general who commands the World Government's army, Mr. Hall only answers to the President and the Governmental Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Hall is present for a secret meeting between President Vargas, the GBI, and the Association of Fox Rights, where Nathan Fenrir and Desmond Adolfo seek to have Vulpie Vivixen murdered. Mr. Hall voices his disapproval of the plan, in which military air ships would be sent in to attack Vulpie while he and Polar are in the Wispy Lupus Canis Mountain Range. While Vulpie's computer virus controls the universe's technology, satellite imaging is down and Hall reminds the foxes from the AFR that it would cost many soldiers their lives to fight battles without proper intelligence or support. He advises Vargas that no large scale action should be taken until Vulpie is neutralized, considering Vulpie at the time, has control of the Ion Cannon, the World Government's be all and end all weapon to conclude most wars.
Sally: A brown furred vixen that is part of Vulpie's team at the Cyber Technologies Government Division. Sally handles secondary data loop programming and "If-then" AI programming. Sally is terrified when she sees what Evil Vulpie does to Vulpie in the White Room.
Tommy Howell: Tommy works for news station 7 on Planet Veida and looks to make a name for himself when the colony comes under the attack of Evil Vulpie. President Vargas warns everyone to stay away from Evil Vulpie but looking to make a name for himself, tommy actually goes up and asks the robotic fox imitation a question. The conversation is as follows : “Hello, I’m Tom Howell with news station seven!” Tommy tells Evil Vulpie and the robot stops talking to itself and looks at him with a smile. “May I speak with you?”“Oh who are you? You’re a cutie!” Evil Vulpie tells the wolf and the man laughs nervously. “Like I said, I’m a reporter.” Tommy answers.“What’s the news? Am I the news? I am the news, aren’t I?” Evil Vulpie quickly says to the reporter.“Yes you are!” Tommy says while his camera man, also a wolf, films Evil Vulpie with diligence. “We all want to know what you are doing? Who are you? Are you Vulpie?”“Yup!” Evil Vulpie answers.“You can’t be the real one, because we’ve seen how strong you are.” Tommy responds. “Are you a robot of Vulpie?” “I’m Vulpie!” Evil Vulpie replies with a grin. “And I like to party! Do you like to party?“Sure.” Tommy responds and squints in confusion. “Good, because the party doesn’t start until I show up! Woo hoo! WATCH THIS!” Evil Vulpie says and jumps over to the red sports car it was eying earlier. Tommy Howell and his team take a few steps back as the orange furred fox look alike puts its black tipped paws against the roof of the automobile. Evil Vulpie uses its robotic strength to puncture the roof of the car with its claws, take hold of the thin metal, and yank the entire top of the car away. It comes loose with a very loud metallic sound.Evil Vulpie tosses the roof away, then turns and laughs at Tom with glee. “Now it’s a convertible! Woo hoo! Heeheeheheheeheee!” The robot says with Vulpie’s voice and Tommy nods in fear.“I see that! Why did you do it?” Tom asks while the camera man films with dread.“Why not?” Evil Vulpie asks with a huge grin.
Nathan Fenrir: The chief executive of the Association of Fox Rights. Nathan Fenrir is a middle aged brown fox that has incredible political clout and every time President Vargas deals with him, he deals with the Association of Fox Rights through him. Mr. Fenrir has been irate about Vulpie’s presence worldwide ever since his appearance, believing that Vulpie is painting all foxes in a less than favorable view. He is responsible for the secret meeting between President Vargas, the GBI, and the Association of Fox Rights, where Nathan Fenrir and Desmond Adolfo seek to have Vulpie Vivixen murdered. Nathan is a fox purist through and through. There are some in the Association of Fox Rights that believe they are superior to every other species in the universe and Nathan suscribes to that line of thinking, though it is never said publicly. When Vulpie and Polar are in the Wispy Canis Lupus Mountains on an illegal vacation of Vulpie's making, Fenrir presses President Vargas to use military force. He is utterly infuriated that he cannot get the world government to use its military against Vulpie, but there is a good reason not to, considering Vulpie at the time, has control of the Ion Cannon, the World Government's be all and end all weapon to conclude most wars. Fenrir vastly underestimates what Vulpie.net is capable of, but luckily he does not get his way and Vulpie is not forced to repel an attack. If he had, Vulpie might have been responsible for actually killing animals in self defense, and that would be a turning point, Druward suggests, that could cost many more lives. At the time Vulpie was simply doing whatever he wanted and if forced into a fight his virus controlled wolf soldiers would have decimated living men sent in against them. Nathan uses derogatory phrases to describe homosexuals and doesn't think much of Vulpie and Polar's relationship, saying that the fox is humiliating himself and his species by letting a wolf make love to him. Fenrir is the largest cause of conflict within the Association of Fox Rights and continues to lead a campaign against Vulpie at the end of A Fox Tail.
Scott: A brown furred wolf and one of Polar's friends from work at the Illehas corporation. Scott taunts Polar with Mark about meeting Vulpie in the first place and watches them hook up. Like Polar's other friends there that evening, he is shocked to see Vulpie show up the next week, hacking into the media around the world.
Michael Lake: A brown furred fox pastor that has his own tv broadcast for his church. Michael tries to run Vulpie's name through the mud by accusing him of being the "Anti-Khalan." Khalan is the Deiva Goddesses worshipped by all canines, who is one of the four Deivas of the Deivaism religion. Deivaism is by far the most popular religion and in the holy Velora, there is a chapter titled "Khalan's Vein," where the "Anti-Khalan" will come and try to undo her children against all of the other species. Michael Lake seizes upon Vulpie's popularity and like a classic bloodsucker, uses Vulpie's talents and charm as an excuse to label him the most evil animal that will ever live, etc, etc. All of it amplified because Vulpie is gay.
Suthers: A male gray fox who is part of Vulpie's team at the Cyber Technologies Government Division, and is a Linguistics specialist.
Nikita: A she-wolf who is part of Vulpie's team at the Cyber Technologies Government Division. Nikita also handles "IF-Then AI Programming" like a few of her peers, but she is noticeably younger. Nikita really likes the way Polar looks and Vulpie has some fun with her, as they share thoughts about how sexy he is. While Nikita drools over the arctic wolf she laments her inability to find a suitable man and Vulpie teases her by saying they are all gay. Vulpie feels very comfortable around Nikita and is glad she is part of his team, giving him someone to relate to against the older generation he works with.
““The truth is… I’m sorry that I’m bad Polar. It’s just the way I was made. I came from Vulpie and… Part of his life when things were horrible… And I’m a horrible thing. But…I don’t feel like a thing. I feel like Vulpie. I have feelings for you. How can something not be real and have these, these feelings?”
Forbidden love: Not only between two men, but between species, where a wolf and fox cannot resist each other.
Cyber punk: Vulpie is the ultimate hacker, and embodies everything one would expect of an underground rebellious youth.
Technological terror: Vulpie knows he is creating a monster when he makes the unstoppable computer virus, Vulpie.net.
Gay vs straight comedy: Vulpie is just too adorable, but his antics can freak out straight animals. They don't know how to take him, as no one like him has ever come along before. The back and forth between straight animals and the gay fox can be hilarious.
