One of the better books I have read in a long time. This is a very believable story about what would happen if a volcano erupted in the United States. The setting is right after the eruption sand follows the main characters as society breaks down.

I had a really hard time getting into this book at the beginning, but once the main character started his journey, I couldn't stop reading. This was recomended by an acquaintance who knows the author, but I'm glad I didn't pass it up.

Alex made one big mistake. He didn't go on a trip with his family and then it happened. A super volcano in Yellow Stone erupted and trapped his town even though they are over 900 miles away. He has no idea where his family is and if they're safe and he is about to find out. The author writes it... alright. It is not my favorite book but it captures a real life natural disaster in a dystopian novel.

A darn good post-apocalyptic YA novel. No zombies here, just the eruption of the Yellowstone super volcano that changes life as we know it. This one kept me going and was full of adventure. Definitely for mature readers though--rape, murder, and cannibalism make it not for the squeamish. Looking forward to the sequel.

    Ashfall Review
The novel Ashfall by Mike Mullin was, in my opinion, an excellent book. From the moment I started reading I was absolutely hooked and didn’t want to put it down. The book follows teenager Alex as he travels from Iowa to Illinois after a massive super volcano erupts in Yellowstone National Park. When I first decided to read the book, I had no idea how frightening and descriptive it would be regarding the eruption and the overall aftermath and journey of Alex. The way the author described his journey through the ash and all of the obstacles he faced on his way to meet up with his parents made me actually feel as if I was there and I couldn’t get enough of it! It was intense, scary, and overall one of those books where you would cheer for the main character to reach his goal. One of my favorite parts was when the author was describing the immensely loud and thunderous noise that the volcano created as it erupted. It actually, in a way, scared me a little bit as I read the detail that made it so lifelike. For sure, one of my absolute favorite books I think I’ve ever read. Showed me the dedication Alex took to try and reunite with his parents during a time that we can only hope never comes. I recommend this book to everyone of all ages because I know that nearly anyone who reads it will surely enjoy it just as much as I did.

Ashfall is a wonderful book and I was excited that its sequel will come out sometime this month. The ending was a cliff hanger leaving you not knowing what to expect, so when I turned the page I expected to see another chapter, not a note from the editor, it was kind of depressing. Ashfall is about a boy who is trying to find his family after they left to visit their uncle's and he stayed home. Not long after they left, his house came crashing down due to a volcano explosion. This explosion made a lot of noise and left more than a foot of ash falling for days. He wondered through the ash and snow trying to find his family, 140 miles away. This book was a good narration and I was able to picture everything that was happening. It was gory at times, but then was also cute at times.

I recommend this one highly. I seriously loved this book and its great detail. I did not like the detail when there were fight scenes just because it was so well-written. Amazing!
    FIVE stars.
