I loved the originality of this PNR story set in an interesting and well built reality. The author does a great job of imparting the what, how and why of the world occupied by our two protagonists, Mal and Chrysabelle. The supporting characters add depth and shading to the story and I'll admit that Ms Painter has captured my attention to complete the rest of the House of Comarre novels.

It's a pleasure to read such a unique vampire based story, and I would recommend it to all lovers of vampire fiction. It should be noted that this book leans more towards an "urban fantasy" than a paranormal romance, as whilst the romance 'atmosphere' is there, romance is not the primary focus of this book, which leads to a story with some decent 'meat' on its bones, oft lacking from books primarily PNR.
