Very interesting points and takes on TV shows (Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie) and music (The Shirelles and Beatles)”
“Great fun. Studies images of women in popular culture, specifically on TV, and the way they reveal the advancing liberation of the women and girls of the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. Asks subtly whether the gals on TV made it possible for the rest of us to move forward, or the other way around.”

I think the target audience was maybe my mother's generation though and much of the book I just couldn't relate to. It was written in the early 90's and it feels outdated. Douglas came off at times a bit too whiny for my taste and somewhat repetitive. She does make interesting points though and at times Where the Girls Are was an eye-opening read.”

Susan Douglas has a measured, good-natured tone throughout the book, which makes some of the more difficult and enraging subject matter go down a little easier.”
