“The sassy PI is back. In Third Grave Dead Ahead Charley is trying to deal with the fact that Reyes doesn't want to see her. But can you really blame him after the events of Second Grave on the Left?

Charley is running around all over time hopped up on coffee and days without sleep trying to solve another missing person's case. While Charley tries to find out what has happened to the missing wife of a doctor she has run in after run in with Reyes when she falls asleep. Which is why is she tries to void falling a sleep. Although the encounters are sexy, she can also see that Reyes doesn't really want to be called to her.

More emotional tug of war between Charley and Reyes. They want each other but don't like that they want each other because they still do not trust the other one 100%.

Charley is slowly starting to see what she is capable of with her powers. Things are a brewing and I'm not talking about all that coffee that she and Cookie drinks. As a bigger picture starts to develop through out the series it only brings up more questions. And I can't wait to read/listen to the next book, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet.

Only time will tell what the fates have in store for Charley and Reyes. And if you are a fan of snark filled mysteries with hotter than sin anti-hero you need to check out Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series. I highly recommend it on audio. Lorelei King does an outstanding job bring the sassy Charley to life.”

“Third Grave Dead Ahead left me desperate for the next book. The more I read of this series, the more I fall in love. Truly one of the best series out there, Charley Davidson has captured my attention and isn't letting go.

After the last book, I didn't know if this story could get any better. And it does. Charley is doing everything physically possible to not fall asleep. Being now when Reyes enters her dreams, he's angry and he's making sure that even when she does sleep, she doesn't get any rest. And so, her solution, is to not fall asleep. At all costs. And it is starting to have an effect on her ability to do her job. But it makes for great entertainment as she bumbles around in her sleepless, caffeine fueled daze.

This time, Charley's case also happens to be the same one that Reyes wants her on. Looking for the father that he was accused of murdering, the father who faked his death. Supposedly. All the while, trying to locate the missing wife of a doctor. Who doesn't look so innocent from where Charley is sitting. I don't know how Ms. Jones does it. There is a whole lot going on as the series progresses, but it never feels like too much. She's able to blend her stories together flawlessly.

The ending of this just about killed me. I'm not sure if prophecy is the right word, but we do get a hint of things to come for the ending and the twist at the end just about stopped my heart. I was stunned. And then I read more. And now... now I'm forced to wait until October to find out more. I just might go stir crazy waiting for more Charley! But this series is so worth the wait. And I'm excited for things to come in this series.”

“This is definitely my favourite storyline of the series so far. It's a culmination of bits and pieces of story threads we've been getting over the last two books. And again, it's proven my developing theory that when you make someone laugh and feel all happy and comfortable, it only hits them that much harder -like a sledge hammer to the gut harder- when something ...unsettling happens, because they're just not expecting it.

I cried. This book made me cry!

Charley Davidson, aka the Grip Reaper, aka Private Detective extraordinaire, is a very funny lady, as anyone who's read books one and two will know. Charley Davidson after nearly two weeks of trying to stay awake because she's scared of what Reyes Farrows might do to her in her sleep, is freaking hilarious! She may or may not be slightly more than human, but 13 days of no sleep will catch up with the best of us. There's only so much coffee in the world. This makes for some of the funniest dialogue scenes I have ever read. Ever.

I really enjoyed the main mystery this time. Charley is hired in her PI capacity to find a missing wife. Again. But it's a very different story this time. She also gets delivered a prophesy of sorts at the beginning of the book which makes you very worried about exactly whom it involves throughout the rest of the story. And even though you know it's coming, it really doesn't lessen the blow.

Did I mention I cried?

I think the other reason it's my favourite is the further development of Reyes' character. I felt like I got to see him more as a real person. Whether or not I liked all that I saw...well that's a different question all together, isn't it. All I know is I want more. Lots more. I have a feeling that, now that we've wrapped up certain events that the bigger story arc is going to make itself known. And since we are already three books in before this happens, this makes me hopeful that this series has a long way to go yet before it runs its course. I truly hope so.

Can't wait until October for Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet.

As I sat down to write this review, the first thing that came to my mind and appropriately if I may say so is "Holymuthafeckingmonkeyshit, this book friggin rocked!" Ms. Jones has done a wonderful job setting up the plot and the build up of all characters. This is the best installment by far.

Charley Davidson continues with her life as a Private Investigator and continues to live in secret as a Grimm Reaper. In this installment, Charley gets a visit from a doctor whose wife is missing. This case is very interesting and halfway through, I almost thought I knew the who, what, and why of it all but Charley’s findings proved me wrong. Charley is good at what she does and solves this mystery.

On the other hand, there is her life as a Grimm Reaper that involves a certain hot Son of Satan. Reyes, the Big Bad is back and he is very mad and for good reasons. This was revealed in Second Grave on the Left, book2. Because of their current situation, Charley falls deeper in lust with Mr. Coffee. Sleepless and over-caffeinated, she is as funny and quirky as ever. Honestly, I have no idea how she never runs out of come backs or the things she thinks or say in general... Oh yeah, her ADD. I just love her.

Reyes and Charley’s relationship definitely suffers in this book for many reasons; but the biggest is TRUST. Will they overcome it? I really don't know and it worries me *shrugs*. The good thing is we see a little more of Reyes in his Corporeal self, yes, in the flesh. And he is sweet, lovable, flirts with little girls, and hot as hell *no pun* and he’s funny as…, well, you get what I mean. I just love him!

We see many of the old characters come back. Cookie and UB (Uncle Bob) are funny and sweet as ever. Gemma, her sister, is around more. Danger and Will Robinson make an appearance. Garreth takes on a big role, I love him. Mr. Wong is still the same. Misery will get a few scenes. Mistress Marigold will reveal herself and a few more things will unfold. New characters were introduced; Stella the Belly button and Peter the Sausage Link. Lastly, Psycho Girl with a knife and a bitch Artemis I am sure we will see more of.

The narrator for this series is Ms. Lorelei King who does a wonderful job portraying Charley Davidson to the dot. She brings all the characters to life without overacting. All the voices she used came naturally, and Ms. King nailed every bit of timing for all her jokes, innuendos and emotions. She is THE BEST female narrator IMO.

“Charley is on several cases at once. She's hired to find a doctor's missing wife, but thinks the good doctor has something to do with it. The biker gang who owns the asylum finally catches up to her, but instead of punishing her for breaking in all the time, they hire her to find out who's poisoning their dogs. And lastly, she's trying to help prove Reyes' innocence especially since he's broken out of prison and is threatening her family if she doesn't cooperate. Filled with plenty of jokes, laughs and suspense, Third Grave keeps the reader's attention. Great for Stephanie Plum fans and those who like a little supernatural mixed in with their mystery.”
