This was my first Iris Johansen and I found it to be better than I expected. I usually like my suspense "neat" not the romantic suspense. Although I used to enjoy the romantic suspense quite a bit when I was younger - later teens into 20s. I've had Johansen recommended to me quite often so I took this opportunity to try it out.
The story was quite a page-turner with some very interesting twists. The romance was fun and not heavily done. You do have to suspend belief (disbelief?) but it is quite empowering to think of what a determined woman with revenge on her mind could accomplish! Nell Calder is introduced in the story as a very loving mom who is a bit out of her element. They are in Greece and Nell would rather be anywhere than the reception where she has to be the dutiful wife beside her rising star (banking) husband. Enter Nicholas Tanek, who has been asked to be at this event because someone attending the event is being targeted for assassination by a power in a drug cartel. Nell's name is on the list but Nicholas meets her and realizes that her as a target just doesn't make sense. He regrets that decision. There are some very interesting twists and quite a bit of action. Good story, moves quickly.

“The best Johansen's book I read so far!!
Even if some general traits of this book are quite common among other books of the same genre and, most of all, other books of the same author, I think in this case the storyline and the characters were developped with more care and attention to the details and it really paid off! All the secrets machinations and intrigues that linked one character with the others made this book even more enjoyable and intriguing.”
“This is my first Iris Johansen and I found it to be very entertaining. It is a good suspense, a definite page-turner, but with an engaging romantic bent. Suspend disbelief and you are all set; no cynics allowed. Nicholas Tanek is told that the party in Greece might be a hit and Nell Calder might be targeted by someone high up in the drug cartel known by him. Everything is very vague. When he meets Nell he sees a shy, loving mother that seems out-of-place at the high-power event where this is supposed to set up. There are many others that are more likely targets and, since the information was questionable, he goes looking for the real target. He was wrong, Nell survives but everything in her life has changed including her face and her body which she strengthens for revenge and that leads to the rest of the story.
The first chapter is a flashback to a rotten childhood event and the next chapter when Nicholas Tanek is introduced is quite confusing but it is a pretty speedy ride from then on.”
