“This is my favorite out of the series. It is about a woman that is trying to prove herself as a fireman in a small town with narrow minds. The local pastor, who also works with this fire station, has fallen (literally) to her feet and finds himself at trying to open his mind to her being the new chief and be her friend when most others are giving her a hard time. He ends up fallen in love with her but has a hard time putting his narrow minded view of woman to rest for her to do what she has always wanted to be. ”

EllieKarlson has just started as the interim fire chief of Deep Haven, Minnesota when she ends up rescuing the town's pastor, Dan Matthews. Sparks quickly fly between the two, and they each for their own reasons do their best to quench them. Warren uses lots of metaphors about fire, without ever overdoing it. Her detail about the work that firemen do is fascinating and adds to the story's interest. This is not one of Warren's best books, and as it is a reprint of a 2004, and I can see how her writing has flourished since then. The plot involving arson seems a bit forced and the perpetrator is obvious. However, I always love how Warren weaves faith through the very fabric of every story and then uses it to make her characters grow and come to life. It's a good romance with plenty of heat.”

Chauvinism is alive and well in this small town, and she has her hands full as the boss of a firehouse full of men. Written in omniscient voice, this novel is one that I happily read beginning to end. I like getting inside the heads of the characters to better understand their thinking.
The characters are well-rounded. Ellie never feels good enough and carries a chip on her shoulder. This creates a good bit of tension that equates to interesting reading. When people are hurting, Dan, the town preacher, is uncertain which words to use or Bible verses to quote. He's a loving pastor who wrestles with his inadequacies. How refreshing!
Minor characters, Joe and Mona, go through difficult times and face a tough decision.
There's drama in this novel. There's romance. There's mystery with a crime to solve. What more could a reader of Christian Fiction want? I give this one a thumbs UP!”
“Susan May Warren is a funny, down-to-earth author. This book is about a romance that the main heroine tries to prevent with hilarious, humbling results! She soon learns that God has a different plan for her life. A good read!”

She's got to win the respect of her all male crew, and figure out how to handle her feelings for Pastor Dan. Characters are well rounded. The story is a bit predictable. Faith and scripture play a huge role in this novel. Appeal only for Christian fiction fans.”
