“It was really slow until you got up to about page 300. I probably wouldn't recommend it, but it has good meaning.”

The reader, Mirron Wills, did a wonderful job narrating this historical novel about the Buxton community in Canada settled by escaped African-American slaves before the Civil War. Only child Elijah has had a wonderful childhood since he was born in Canada, but he hears the horrible stories of American slavery from other community members. Elijah crosses the border into Michigan trying to help a community member purchase his wife and children”

While I sometimes feel that Curtis' humor is a bit forced, the situations that Elijah was presented with and how he dealt with being "fra-gile" did force a genuine smile to appear on my face. Again, a great book to use if you're looking for great character development, a history lesson, and a good laugh.”
