When Jessica Packwood found out she was a Romanian vampire princess, she had the shock of her teenage life. Turns out that was the easy part. Now, married to Prince Lucius Vladescu, she has to claim her throne and convince a vampire nation she’s fit to be their queen. But Jess can’t even order a decent meal from her castle’s Romanian staff, let alone deal with devious undead subjects who would love to see her fail.

And when Lucius is accused of murdering a vampire Elder and imprisoned without the blood he needs, Jessica finds herself alone, fighting for both of them to survive.

Desperate to clear her husband’s name and win his release, Jess starts a full-scale investigation. Can Jess figure out who to trust – and how to rise to power – before she loses everything, including the vampire she loves?

Full of romance, mystery, and danger, the highly anticipated sequel to Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side shows that sometimes a princess has to earn her “happily ever after” – with a sharpened stake in hand.

Quotes edit see section history

  • “So it's basically an oversized undead family reunion?”
    Jessica Dragomir Vladescu
  • “Let's get back to the budget. I think I'm translating the Romanian wrong, because it seems to me that Lucius wants to spend sixty-five thousand euros on rabbits next year." "I do have a taste for hare- but I culd never consume more than fifty thousand euros' worth in one twelve month span.”
    Jessica, Lucius Vladescu
  • “Please do not be so hard on yourself. You were raised amongkittens by vegans. It was difficult even for me, raised by killers on a diet of violence." "But you did it." "Yes, and I will do it again. And you will learn to stand at my side as you become accustomed to this culture, the way I became accustumed to yours." "What if I can't?" "I used to ask myself that same question when faced with your mother's lentil casseroles. 'What if I literally cannot lift the fork today?' And yet I did it, Jessica." "You can't compare today's trial to lentil casserole." "Didn't you taste it?”
    Lucius, Jessica
  • “A stake is like a...a bar mitzvah gift." "That's a pretty twisted present.”
    Jessica, Mindy Stankowicz
  • “You need to prove yourself as a sovereign today. As your American countrymen would say, 'The training wheels are coming off.' And now.”
    Lucius
  • “I do not wish this experience upon either of you, but do you wonder if your wife will not grow to fill her role as principessa more quickly when not shadowed by the huge oak that is Lucius Vladescu? All things become stronger in sunlight and wind, yes?”
    Raniero
  • “That must've been awful. To be told your lost childhood was pointless..." "Si. And then, when I am so angry, Claudiu whispers in my ear, 'Why do you not prove yourself now? Take down the price, rise to the throne and make your sacrifice worthwile?' I did not need to be urged twice. Lucius is still speaking with Flaviu- his back to me- and I cross the floor and grab his shoulder, and when he truns to face me, he sees the look in my eyes and grasps immediatamente that we are no longer playing at war." "What happened?" "We are evenly matched enough that Lucius steps back, perhaps an inch, and it is that small move whice saves his heart. Lucius lies upon the floor. I am above him, and I kneel down, prepared to be the victor that day.'Raniero, my brother! I would almost think you mean to destroy me, if we were not engaged to have dinner this very night. You will not make me miss a hare that I have looked forward to all day, will you?”
    Jessica, Raniero
  • “Enduring pain is like causing pain. It too, becomes easier with practice. And you know, of course, that vampires heal quickly." "No...I couldn't." "The Buddha himself says 'Life is suffering.' Pain cannot be avoided, only fully faced and accepted. A moment of discomfort is nothing to me." "I don't think Buddah would appprove of my deliberately stabbing you.”
    Raniero, Jessica
  • “Have you ever hurt anything or anyone, Antanasia?" "Well, I did stab Lucius's foot with a pitchfork once.”
    Raniero, Jessica
  • “You committed Claudiu to a 'land of rainbows' instead of 'eternal silence.'”
    Ylenia
