Monkey is awesome. I don't know to what extent the genius is in the original 16th century Chinese text and to what extent it's in the translation, but I really enjoyed it. I lent my copy out to a friend who was a fan of the old TV show (remember that?) and he raved about it. So much so that it took a tour going from one friend to another until almost all my friends had read it. And it received rave reviews from everyone.

I reckon that anyone who likes modern SF/Fantasy literature would enjoy Monkey. And anyone who enjoys reading world literature. Or classic literature. Or young adult fiction. Anyone in fact.

You've got to want to read on from there!

There are so many editions and editors and publishers to the whole Journey to the West series, but no matter which one you read, you will definitely be on the floor laughing. Despite being translated from Chinese, I find the translated version into English quite poetic while remaining a hilarious read.
