• Ella Brady: Young woman teaching science at a private school who has attracted teh attention of a wealthy married man
• Brenda O'Hara Brennan: Manages Quentins - an upscale restaurant that her husband is the chef for
• Patrick Brennan, aka Pillowcase: Chef of Quentins, married to Brenda.
• Deirdre, aka Dee: One of Ella's best friends. Works in a lab. Had a ala's wedding
• Nick Hayes: One of Ella's university friends, and first lover, who now runs Firefly Films
• Don Richardson: A wealthy financial consultant and investment broker. Married to Margery, and they havew two sons. A glad-hander who is attracted to Ella Brady.
• Nora O'Donoghue: Old friend of Brenda's who followed her love Mario to Sicily, and lived in the village where he married and had children and came back to Dublin after his death. Now works in the kitchen at Quentins and is engaged to a Latin teacher, Aidan Dunne.
• Quentin: Young man given the opportunity to own his dream restaurant by a black sheep from the Hayward Department Store family. He in turn gives Brenda and Patrick Brennan their dream of their own restaurant while he goes off to travel and paint.
• Frank: Nuala's husband. In the building trade with his three older brothers - but their business isn't always completely aboveboard.
• Nuala: Frank's Wife. A university friend of Deirdra and Ella's - from he country with a flat in Dublin for University
• Sandy: Works for Nick in the Firefly Film company
• Cathy Scarlet: Partner of Tom Feather in their catering business, Scarlet Feather. Soon to be married with a baby. Divorced from lawyer Neil Mitchell.
