I wanted to begin a study of the cross and, particularly, the effects of Jesus' Crucifixion on God Himself. This book helps with that and much more. A profound Christological text, well researched, superbly argued and genuinely displaying a passionate love of the biblical Jesus. Cannot recommend this strongly enough.

Meaty stuff but good. Took me quite a while to read, but worth it. Mr Stott has given the subject quite a bit of thought!

An excellent read. I can understand the rave reviews about this book, and why many call this John Stott's masterpiece.

It is the most comprehensive and eye-opening exposition of the cross that I have ever read, and one book I believe every Christian should try to read.

Excellent book. Found early symbols of Christianity interesting. Stott is great on the atonement, but realize that he is an annihilationalist. (spelling?)
