  • Toby Malone: Toby is a freshman in High School who enjoys baseball and collecting baseball cards. He was able to skip a grade when he was younger because he was really smart. He plays catcher for his schools baseball team. He has an older brother named Jake and a younger borther named Eli. He's also in love with one baseball card he owns, a mint-ondition 1962 Willie Stargell rookie baseball card. He is covering for his brother, Jake, after he starts taking up drugs.
  • Jake Malone: Jake is a junior in High School who loves whatever is friends are or are not doing. (peer pressure) Jake and his brother, Toby, used to always hang out together, watch baseball games, go out for baseball together, and wrestle around. Now, Jake is invloved in drugs, such as drinking, marajuana, and other substances, doesn't go out for baseball, and rarley ever hangs out with his brothers.
  • Eli Malone: Eli is a five year old and is the youngest member of the Malone family. He has a bike that he named Tonto. Eli doesn't know or understand much which makes the book slightly more entertaining and funny with all of the rediculous stuff he says.
  • Mom: The mom is recently divorced, ever since her husband left, she has been acting like she is a cancer patient, walking around all sick like and lonley inside. Nearing the ending of the book, she starts dating "The Food King" whose real name is stanley, and it seems like they might be getting in a serious relatoinship.
  • Dad: Toby, Eli, and Jake's dad is an alcohol induced person who was recenlty divorced with his wife. He was not in the book very much unless the main character, Toby, was describing him in some way. Toby describes him as a huge fan of baseball and a loving dad.
  • Mr. D: At the begining of the book, it seemed like Mr. D was a creepy old man who was acting like a pedophile, but he's actually a very nice guy. He is widowed. He owns a house and Toby goes over their a lot to do recycling, washing windows, or reaching things off of top shelves. He is an avid baseball card collector and thats where Toby got his mint-condition Willie Stargell from. Whenever Toby goes over to his house, Mr. D normally tosses Toby a pack of WarHeads candy, except for one time where he was out of them.
  • Martha McDowell: Martha McDowell is a girl in Toby's grade who toby has a crush on.
