The book I read was, "Missing," by Catherine MacPhail. I give this book 5 stars because its so fascinating, thrilling, & bipolar. This book is fascinating because of all the different things going on in Maxine Moody's life. She skips school, plays games all day, then chills at home while her parents freak out on her! Her personality fascinates me, the ways she thinks about her pastor, parents, about Cam, & especially about her brother. Maxine is quite fascinating indeed. This book is thrilling because of the strange occurrences & the cruel incidents that've happened to Derek, Cam, & Maxine. From the dead person phone calls to the strange staring feeling finally to a near-death experience effects Maxine's life very much. Is her brother Derek dead? Are Maxine & Cam a thing? Read the book. This book is bipolar because of all the emotions thrown out at random times! In fact, I'm guessing that's why MacPhail named her “Maxine Moody.” Maxine always has a different emotion or feel to whats happening, then changes it quick to something else! For example, she'll hate her brother for leaving the family & go missing, the next she'll pray for him & love him, regretting all she says. The main character is Maxine Moody, the bipolar, snotty 13-year-old every parent would “love to have...” She hates school & love to hang around, not doing what she's told & being lazy. Yet something about her is so fascinating, so unique & thrilling. This book gives you goose bumps. Yet she's super bipolar, especially against her brother, Derek. Derek is Maxine's 13-year-old brother who was bullied at school. He went missing for ten months, until in London police find a body with Derek's clothes on it, & Maxine's parents identified it. Derek was scared, terrified of the evil bully at school, Sweeney, who got away with everything since he came from a broken home. His personality fascinates me, & thrills me. He's so mysterious & even though no one knows much about him, this story makes Derek come to life! The thrilling part about this book is the climax because you have no idea where it came from & it surprises you! The climax in this book is super exciting, & mysterious! It's when the near-death experience jumps out & you never see it coming! It's insane! I think the author was trying to say; “When you lose the ones you love the most, you do something about it. You either move forward, or move backward.” I recommend this book 100%, so please read it!

    Realistic Fiction.

Maxine and her family start to go crazy when their brother/son Derek goes missing and seems to be coming back into their life. I like this book because it shows the importance of family.

I read the book Missing by Catherine Macphail. The main characters of this book are Derek, Maxine, Mum & Dad Moody, and Sweeney. Maxine is a 13 year old girl that has had kind of a rough last year. He brother Derek went missing over a year ago and her mother is falling apart. Mum is trying to except that her son is dead. She goes through therapy and even hires a medium to give her psychic readings. Dad is trying to help mum through tis rough time, but it seems like mum and him don't really to pay attention to Maxine anymore. Maxine feels as if all they care about is Derek. Derek this, Derek that. She starts to be glad that he's dead. One day Maxine gets a phone call from someone saying they're “Derek”, but she just thinks it's cruel old Sweeney. Sweeney is the meanest person you could meet. He used to pick on Derek all the time before he disappeared. He made Derek's life miserable. Maxine keeps getting mysterious calls, and one day “Derek” asks her to meet him at the church to prove it really is him. Maxine wasn't sure about it, but she decides to go. When she got there she was the only one. She waited, and waited, and waited, until finally she heard someone. She told him to show himself to prove he was Derek. Right as she saw a figure appear, the huge statue at the front of the church came crashing down at her. After it had landed on the ground, with pieces of it everywhere, she saw no one in sight. Then, laying on the ground, was a medallion she had given Derek as a present just before he disappeared. He never took it off, she knew it was his. Later on in the story, everything comes together, but you'll have to read it to find out the ending. I would rate this book at about a 4/5 star and would recommend this to my friends. I think the climax of the story is when Maxine starts getting calls from “Derek” and lots of weird things start to happen.

Maxine Moody is a disorderly student. She wasn't always a disorderly student, she changed when her brother got missing. Her brother was always complaining about bullying and studying. But one day, a phone call comes from a cemetery. The caller claims that he is Maxine's brother. Shocked, frighted, Maxine though it was the bully trying to make fun of Maxine. People said that they found his clothes. They said that he was dead. You need to read this book to find out what happened to her brother.

The idea of this story of this book was good, but the story was predictable and the story wasn't in depth. But there were no mistakes, and it was fun to read.
