On October 21, 1805, an English fleet commanded by Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson hunted down and annihilated the combined fleets of Franch and Spain inan immense sea battle off Cape Trafalgar, near the Spanish coast. The Battle of Trafalgar, as it came to be known, crowned the Brisith Royal Navy as undisputed sovereign of the world's oceans and confounded Napoleon's last hope of a cross-Channel invasion of England.

Even though the navy seems like kind of an important thing now, back then it was almost useless because England possessed such skill in the water. The U.S. navy was very nearly not created due to the presence of England and the lack of available funds in America's early years.
