This book was ABSOLUTELY amazing. A lot of my friends and other people had read it and said it was really good, that I should read it. So, I took their advice and read it! It was sooooooo good I practically cried when I finished. Liz Hall seems like your regular teenager who just wants to...

I first heard about this book when a girl i go to school with told everyone in my class that we had to read because it was just AMAZING! I looked for it at the school library, the town library and, other town's libraries and no one ever had it. I figured it must be a pretty good book since it was...

When fifteen-year-old Liz Hall is hit by a taxi, she wakes up on a cruise ship and discovers she has died. She finds herself in Elsewhere. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and can return to Earth. But Liz doesn't want to be dead, she wants to get her driver's license and have a boyfriend. She wants to make sure her dad gets the sweater she bought him for his birthday. She does not want to live with her grandmother and she does not want to be a baby again. Can Liz let go of her old life and embrace a new one? Is it possible that a life lived in reverse is no different from a life lived forward? This a strange, yet moving, look at growing up even when you're technically dead.

I was probably too young to read it; when I did. But its never the less a good book, which sticks and you don't forget it. Its kind of bittersweet though and nothing I would recommend if you want a overly positive, happy-go-lucky kind of book.

This is a complex yet heartwarming novel that deals with death and the afterlife. Liz is a typical 15 year old when she suddenly dies. She is transported to the hereafter, a place called Elsewhere, where she meets her Grandmother, who has previously died. In Elsewhere all deceased lead an existence that, instead of aging, they grow younger each year until they are babies and are then sent back to earth to be reborn. Elsewhere is a wonderful place, peaceful and pleasant, with possibilities for a new life. At first Liz does not accept her death and the place that is now her home. Like all teenagers, she was in a hurry to grow up, go to college, get a job and taste life. Now she is faced with attaining none of these things but only going backward in age. She gradually learns that, in Elsewhere, she can attain all she desires through relationships, work and acceptance, even though she will be living her life backwards. A great young adult book about life, death and living each day to the fullest. It makes one think about what is really important in life and what the possibilities are after death. I could see using this as a discussion book with high schoolers, especially those affected by death or studying cultures/religions that believe in the afterlife. Although young adults would probably like this story, I would hesitate in sharing it with middle schoolers, as it does make references to sexuality and mature topics.

I thought this was an intriguing book. The idea of Elsewhere was very interesting and the concepts was good. The writing wasn't very captivating though and I felt the storyline was quite dull. I still enjoyed it though, but I don't think I would read it again.
