  • Katitzi: Katarina becomes Katitzi in Romani. Losses mother at age 9 months, is sent to foster parents when camp burns down. Father doesn't allow her to be adopted so she is taken to an orphanage. When she is 7 years old, she is re-united with her family, not remebering anything nor their Romani ways. Her new life style takes a long time to get used to.
  • Lena: Paulina, her older sister, that resembles a boy since their mean stepmother has cut her hair off. Becomes Katitzi's chief teacher in Romani ways. Works in the "Guess Right" stall.
  • Rosa: Katitzi's 13-year-old sister that dances and plays drums at the fun fair owned by their father. Does most of the work in the camp since the stepmother, who is not Romani, spends all her days in bed with a book.
  • Paul: 15-year old brother of Katitzi. Polishes copper for people and plays at the Tivoli.
  • Johan Taikon: Katitzi's father that married a Swede after his Romani wife died, which was a bad choice of a wife.
