“This book I listened to on tape and I loved the way the narrater spoke. The character Violet and the story has stayed with me. I love it when a book does that. While listening to this book I became attached to her and felt so badly for her. Life for a woman in the 50's was certainly different from ours now in many ways. I was sad someone took her life right at a time she was breaking free.”

A cold case this time involving a 30 yr old disappearance of a nearby town "floozy". Kinsey's hired by the daughter who decides she can't move on with her life without knowing what happened to her mother.
No Kinsey backstory or family or other personal development again but very briefly, Henry's story is continued.
What makes this book stand out is an odd departure in the story telling by Sue where the story is interspersed with first person narratives from 1953 around the time of the woman's disappearance from various people in town who had any kind of connection to her. Don't recall Sue using this writing device before. ”
“One of my favorites in Grafton's alphabet series. Sue Grafton uses a new approach in telling this 34 year old mystery. Did someone kill the beautiful Violet Sullivan during the Fourth of July weekend in 1953...or did she simply run off in her beautiful new Bel-Air Chevrolet?”

Even though this book is part of a series, this story stands alone. The book kept me on the edge of my seat until the end and even though there's a glimpse of a few suspects in this whodunit, I was never really sure who the real villain was. The author is great at describing scenes, atmosphere, tastes, and smells without overdoing it. ”
