“This is a good book, but it is not as good as the other two in the trilogy. But of course, I missed the romance. There really wasn't any in this book. It is still a good book, though. It is a nice bridge between the first and the third book. ”

Lackey does a great job with the emotional aspects, you can feel the love the main character has for his lost gay lover, even if you're straight. I think Lackey is commendable for having a gay main character, and not having it be about being gay, but a good fantasy story all around.”

I love the character Vanyel and reading about all of his adventures, loves, heartache and self discovery. He is such a strong and likeable character that you just want him to in some way find the happiness that he deserves. I can't wait to read the last book and then move on to others in the Valdemar series.”

If you're homophobic don't read them, this author is very open about alternative lifestyles and it can sometimes interfere with the story line. My husband liked these books, but I don't see a lot of men enjoying them. It almost (but not quite) crosses the line between fantasy and romance. I still really enjoyed them and I have to say I haven't met a romance book I've liked yet. Because of the unique approach these books read like no other fantasy book I've ever read and I give them very high marks. I actually ready most of the books written by Mercedes Lackey in about a months time I enjoyed them so much (much to my husbands dismay).”

He gets some much needed rest and relaxation at home with his family and his Aunt comes with him. However, his rest is interrupted when he hears a Mindcall for help from Lineas. From there, Vanyel is dragged into the middle of a web of deception and danger, and he may be the only one able to uncover the truth.”
