Description edit see section history

The wild magic is taking its toll on the land, and even Vanyel, the most powerful Herald-Mage to ever walk the world, is almost at the end of his strength. Characters edit see section history

  • Vanyel Ashkevron: the most powerful of the Herald-Mages. Vanyel has become Valdemar's hero during the Karsite war, but he derives little pleasure from the fame. He's exhausted, bitter, and terribly lonely. He's tired of the way his father treats him, worried about the unnatural fear and reverence everyone shows him, and still mourns for his lifebonded.
  • Jervis: Forst Reach's armsmaster. Jervis shattered Vanyel's arm in a rage when Vanyel was only 15. Both men have avoided each other since the incident.
  • Tashir Remoerdis: a frightened and newly chosen Herald from Lineas. Tashir is the heir to the Linean throne, but his people are more interested in lynching him than crowning him. He is the only suspect in the mass murder of his entire family and their household servants.
  • Medren Ashkevron: Vanyel's favorite nephew. Much like his uncle, Medren is passionate about music and wants nothing more than to become a Bard.
  • Savil Ashkevron: Vanyel's aunt and a Herald-Mage. Savil is Vanyel's former teacher, friend, and surrogate mother. She is not the formidable spell caster she used to be, but she still assists Vanyel whenever she can.
  • Melenna: Medren's mother and Vanyel's unwanted late night guest. In a last-ditch effort to "cure" her son, Lady Treesa has promised her maid Melenna that she could marry Vanyel if he falls in love with her.
  • Yfandes: Vanyel's Companion.
  • Withen Ashkevron: Lord of Forst Reach. Vanyel's father.
  • Tantras: A Herald.
  • Mekeal Ashkevron: Vanyel's brother.
  • Lissa Ashkevron: Vanyel's sister. Captain of the Guard Company.
  • Randale: King of Valdemar. Lifebonded to Shavri.
  • Shavri: A Healer. Lifebonded to Randale.
  • Jisa: King Randale's & Shavri's daughter. Vanyel is her biological father.
  • Jaysen: A Herald-Mage.
  • Sofya: A Herald. Her Companion is Gavis.
  • Treesa: Vanyel's mother.
  • Radevel: Vanyel's cousin.
  • Roshya: Mekeal's wife.
  • Serina: Vanyel's aunt.
  • Charis: Vanyel's youngest sister.

  • Ylyna Mavelan: Tashir's mother.
  • Deveran Remoerdis: Add a description of this character.
