The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star is a memoir of Nikki Sixx’s encounter with his heroin and cocaine addiction and his life with Motley Crue. He starts this diary on Christmas day of 1986 and ends on Christmas day 1987. His diary was, for the most part, written on a daily basis. Each day is different, but yet the same- girls, partying, drugs, Motley Crue or all of the above. He describes in detail each trip he takes, at least of what he remembers. A lot of the time he mentioned ending up in his closet because he became really paranoid, after he shot up, that people were after him. Many times he attempts to get help for his addiction but fails in doing so. He brings up his family throughout the book, mentioning how he never knew his father and being taken away from an unfit mother. Towards the end of the memoir Nikki Sixx is pronounced dead by overdose, but is revived just to return home that night and shoot up again. Then is when he realizes how sick he is and begins down the road to recovery and sobering-up.
Many different people that were close to Sixx speak about being there in his darkest of times and watched him spiral down only to pick himself back up and change his life.
