“Legend is a YA novel by Marie Lu from Putnam.
Book Blurb:
Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a military prodigy committed to her country.
Born into the slums of the Republic’s Lake Sector, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal.
From different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered. And Day becomes the prime suspect.
Now caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival while June tries desperately to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together and the sinister lengths to which their country will go to keep its secrets.
My thoughts:
June Iparis is brilliant. The only person to ever score a perfect 1500 on her Trial, she is the youngest person in college. She is also very bored and wants desperately to join her brother in the Republic’s military. To fight the good fight against the traitorous ‘patriots’.
Day has been on his own for the last five years. Living off the radar of the Republic and making it his sole duty to thwart the Republic every chance he gets.
Now Day is on a mission to help his family - and the only way to do that is to enter the hospital - the hospital that is heavily guarded with Republic soldiers.
It is a dangerous mission - but one Day does not hesitate to take. It could mean the difference between life and death for his family.
Day knows that the Republic is responsible for so much that is wrong in the districts. But convincing June of that will be one of the hardest things he’s ever done.
Legend is a good read - if predictable.
I give Legend 3 out of 5 stars.
